Children vitamins for Little Lamas in Nepal

A medical doctor and fellow Kalachakra practitioner is currently collecting a supply of children’s vitamins for delivery to the little children lamas in the Jonang monastery of Nepal.

This will assist in the children’s diet which are currently nutritionally borderline adequate, and help them overcome some chronic medical conditions due to malnutrition.

This vitamin supply drive will be sent out the week of Thanksgiving from Dorje Ling Buddhist Center in Atlanta in co-ordination with the medical doctor in charge.

If you would like to help in purchasing some vitamins for these wonderful little lamas, please read below:

  1. we agree on a certain single vitamin preparation.
The one from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Childrens-Chewable-Vitamins-1000-Count/dp/B002NXFS7W would be fine unless someone has a better suggestion
  2. everyone who wants to do this orders one or more bottles from Amazon on their credit card, to be delivered either to them personally or to Dorje Ling Buddhist Center – Atlanta, c/o Ted Lee – doctor in charge, 3253 Shallowford Rd NE
    Chamblee, GA 30341-3632
    (770) 451-7715
  3. You can also make a small donation from the link on the right.
  4. after all these have arrived we’ll FedEx or DHL all together to the manager of monastery in Nepal–I anticipate shipping will cost around $50-60, maybe more but we will be assured that the package reaches its intended destination.

9 bottles will last 4 months, 13 bottles will last 6 months–I hope we can send at least 9 bottles.

Maybe we can allow 3-4 weeks for everyone to place orders and for them to arrive & plan to send out shipment the week before Thanksgiving?

warm regards to all,
happy Lhabab Duchen -

Ushnisha Vijaya & Kalachakra Empowerment

Ushnisha Vijay

Dates:
New York: Ushnisha Vijaya Empowerment January 27th, 1:30pm Price $20.00

(9)Kalachakra Diety Empowerment February 26th 10:00am, Teachings 2:00pm, Price $75.00

Atlanta:will be posted soon

Ushnisha Vijaya literally means the victorious crown protrusion. She is an emanation of Vairochana Buddha, and along with the White Tara and Amitabha, one of the three deities of longevity in the Buddhist pantheon. Her practice is believed to be especially beneficial for eliminating hindrances to the attainment of a long and healthy life. She also purifies the negative results which are motivated by the spiritually harmful actions of our own selves.

She is described in her practi ce as follows:

She has a white colored body, three faces and eight arms.
The central face is white, the right yellow; the left is blue
and slightly wrathful. Each face has three eyes.
The first right hand holds a crossed vajra at the heart.
The second holds a lotus on top of which sits Amitabha.
The third holds an arrow. The fourth is in the gesture of
granting generosity.

The first left hand holds a noose, the second grasps a
bow. The third grants the gesture of reassurance. The last
left hand makes the dhyana mudra, or the mudra of meditation.

This is exactly how she has been visualized in this thangka.

Her practice concludes with hymns of prayer and praise:

I prostrate at the feet of Ushnisha Vijaya,
Glorious Goddess the color of the autumn moon,
having an extremely beautiful and peaceful body with
three faces and eight arms,
And who bestows boundless wisdom and the best of lives.

At her feet are shown lying a pair of cymbals and the auspicious mirror used in her worship.

Khenpo Choejor Returns to Atlanta

Khenpo Choejor returns to Atlanta this Saturday after traveling and teaching for nearly five months.
Dorje Ling is thrilled to have him back and is hosting a dinner in his honor at
7 pm, Sat. Oct 16.

Khenpo Choejor

Khenpo Choejor

All friends of the center are welcome to attend, and please bring a dish to share (Khenpo loves vegetarian food, but whatever you bring is wonderful). Khenpo is always happy to meet new people and enjoys children too, so feel free to bring your family. It’s a tradition to greet your teacher with a khata, but your presence is more than enough.

And we have a big SECRET request!! The founder of our center, Amy Lee, has a birthday on Sunday, so the welcome dinner will double as a surprise birthday party. She has made many Dharma teachings available for all of us. Let’s surprise her with a birthday cake. Shhh!

Volunteers Needed to Prepare for Khenpo

The Friday night Book Study group will do some house cleaning for Khenpo’s arrival, and we need as many additional volunteers as possible at 7:30PM this Friday, Oct. 15. We’ll need the grass cut, windows dusted, floors swept and downstairs arranged. Bring any cleaning products/tools you have.

If you can’t volunteer, you can still contribute by donating items on the center’s wish list:

  • Paper towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Kitty litter (Ellen may need help buying Advantage for Karpo Kitty)
  • Grocery items for Khenpo (especially vegetables)
  • Tea
  • Soap
  • Laundry detergent

Special Guest, Douglas Duckworth

Douglas Duckworth, one of our dear translators, and his family will be staying at the center this weekend while attending the events for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit at Emory. We will invite them to share in our community dinner so you can help us welcome him and hear the voice of our translator in person!

Thank you!! If you have other ideas for ways to prepare for Khenpo, please contact info@jonang.org.

Alice Ting from the New York Center

Alice Ting from the New York Dorje Ling Center, is visiting here in Atlanta.
It would be a wonderful opportunity for us to meet , greet and share some Southern hospitality!

She is about to return to Tibet and she coordinates the activities in NY so we can ask her about their schedule as well as her own travel.
We would like to offer light refreshments and drinks a so we can talk with her and learn about their center in New York.

Since her time here is limited,
how many people might be available to meet her THIS Wednesday evening

Kalachakra Teachings

Khenpo Choejor is offering teaching for the preliminaries for Kalachakra for all students ( no empowerment required)
Sunday evening at 7pm.

DONATIONS:
Although the dharma is free to all who wish to know, due to rising costs of providing services in teleconferencing and administration, Dorje Ling Atlanta must now request its students to each contribute $10 per lesson towards the costs of the Kalachakra teachings offered by our precious dharma teacher Khenpo Choejor.
( There is a little basket on the coffee table for this purpose.)
No one will be turned away due to genuine financial hardship.

2. PHONE TEACHINGS:
For students not able to attend, we are offering the opportunity to attend by telephone using Free Conference.

Once the student has made their contribution, either through Paypal or by check, a confirmation email with clearance information will be emailed. To allow for this to be handled by volunteer staff and not disturb the teachings, we ask that payment be done at least 48 hours in advance of the teaching. .

3. TAPING:
Is not allowed as these teachings are meant for only those in attendance.

4.SADHANAS are available at the center for those with empowerment.

Book review study group

We will continue our book study group on March 19 @7:30 pm for anyone wanting to work on the Mind Beyond Death teachings regarding dream yoga and Bardo.

This might be an excellent chance for new Kalachakra people to ask questions to senior students.

This book has material relating to both Dream Yoga as well as bardo practice and Phowa so we can relate it to the teachings we received from Khenpo on Dream yoga practice.

Ted has offered to start our group off as moderator for this Friday (We will try to meet every Friday so people can plan their schedules.)

We hope to cover the opening foreword and the first chapter this week, but if you don’t have time, or are still getting your book, please feel free to attend anyway.

We can discuss how much material we will cover by the week this Friday, and perhaps we can also have people offer to be moderator for each section.
