About Losar
March 5 – 20 is a special time for practices in the Buddhist Calendar.
It commemorates the fifteen days when the Buddha performed miraculous display in order to subdue certain non-Buddhist opponents to his teachings. March 5 is Losar, Tibetan New Year. March 20 is the Day of Miracles, also called Day of Offerings or Day of Miracles. All fifteen days are merit multiplying days – the effects of any action are 100 million times more powerful than usual! It is an especially powerful time to do practices.

Children vitamins for Little Lamas in Nepal

A medical doctor and fellow Kalachakra practitioner is currently collecting a supply of children’s vitamins for delivery to the little children lamas in the Jonang monastery of Nepal.

This will assist in the children’s diet which are currently nutritionally borderline adequate, and help them overcome some chronic medical conditions due to malnutrition.

This vitamin supply drive will be sent out the week of Thanksgiving from Dorje Ling Buddhist Center in Atlanta in co-ordination with the medical doctor in charge.

If you would like to help in purchasing some vitamins for these wonderful little lamas, please read below:

  1. we agree on a certain single vitamin preparation.
The one from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Childrens-Chewable-Vitamins-1000-Count/dp/B002NXFS7W would be fine unless someone has a better suggestion
  2. everyone who wants to do this orders one or more bottles from Amazon on their credit card, to be delivered either to them personally or to Dorje Ling Buddhist Center – Atlanta, c/o Ted Lee – doctor in charge, 3253 Shallowford Rd NE
    Chamblee, GA 30341-3632
    (770) 451-7715
  3. You can also make a small donation from the link on the right.
  4. after all these have arrived we’ll FedEx or DHL all together to the manager of monastery in Nepal–I anticipate shipping will cost around $50-60, maybe more but we will be assured that the package reaches its intended destination.

9 bottles will last 4 months, 13 bottles will last 6 months–I hope we can send at least 9 bottles.

Maybe we can allow 3-4 weeks for everyone to place orders and for them to arrive & plan to send out shipment the week before Thanksgiving?

warm regards to all,
happy Lhabab Duchen -
Kathy Sacklin (TCBC)

Khenpo Choejor Returns to Atlanta

Khenpo Choejor returns to Atlanta this Saturday after traveling and teaching for nearly five months.
Dorje Ling is thrilled to have him back and is hosting a dinner in his honor at
7 pm, Sat. Oct 16.

Khenpo Choejor

Khenpo Choejor

All friends of the center are welcome to attend, and please bring a dish to share (Khenpo loves vegetarian food, but whatever you bring is wonderful). Khenpo is always happy to meet new people and enjoys children too, so feel free to bring your family. It’s a tradition to greet your teacher with a khata, but your presence is more than enough.

And we have a big SECRET request!! The founder of our center, Amy Lee, has a birthday on Sunday, so the welcome dinner will double as a surprise birthday party. She has made many Dharma teachings available for all of us. Let’s surprise her with a birthday cake. Shhh!

Volunteers Needed to Prepare for Khenpo

The Friday night Book Study group will do some house cleaning for Khenpo’s arrival, and we need as many additional volunteers as possible at 7:30PM this Friday, Oct. 15. We’ll need the grass cut, windows dusted, floors swept and downstairs arranged. Bring any cleaning products/tools you have.

If you can’t volunteer, you can still contribute by donating items on the center’s wish list:

  • Paper towels
  • Toilet paper
  • Kitty litter (Ellen may need help buying Advantage for Karpo Kitty)
  • Grocery items for Khenpo (especially vegetables)
  • Tea
  • Soap
  • Laundry detergent

Special Guest, Douglas Duckworth

Douglas Duckworth, one of our dear translators, and his family will be staying at the center this weekend while attending the events for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit at Emory. We will invite them to share in our community dinner so you can help us welcome him and hear the voice of our translator in person!

Thank you!! If you have other ideas for ways to prepare for Khenpo, please contact info@jonang.org.

The Tibetan word Dawa means ’month’. Therefore, Saga Dawa refers to the fourth month in the Tibetan calendar. The entire month during which Saga Dawa occurs is considered to be a holy month, and is highlighted by the birth of Buddha Shakyamuni, which falls on the 7th day, and his enlightenment and subsequent nirvana which falls on the 15th day.

Khenpo Ngawang Dorjee will be celebrating this important holy month by leading a Tibetan fire ceremony or puja, also known in Tibetan terminology as a ‘Vajrasattva Jin-Sik”.

The Vajrasattva fire puja practice mainly focuses on pacifying negativities and obstacles while increasing prosperity, joy, longevity, peace, and realization.

Pilgrimage to Tibet 09

I wanted to let you all in Atlanta know that spaces for our pilgrimage
to Jonang power places in Tibet this summer are filling up quickly. We
are keeping it to a small group & there is allot of interest. There
are only a few spots still available & we are accepting registration
forms.

If you would kindly let the Atlanta Sangha know about the trip, that
would be great. It would be wonderful to have some of you come along
on pilgrimage with us. I’ll send down some flyers to Amy at the center
& will talk to Khenpo about the trip more. Here is the link on our
website where people can download registration forms & read the info,

Update on the Property

We have recently received good news regarding the continued loans on our center building, and the 40 acres of land that we are currently financing for a potential retreat or monastery. As many of you know this has been a spiritual goal for us for some time now. Tashi Gyalsten Rinpoche blessed this land, and has spent a good deal of time on the property when he visits our center in Atlanta. It is a special place for him.

The bank has agreed to refinance the loan on the center building, as well as the land loan, at a much lower interest rate, and payments.

We are excited about this news as it will enable us to operate our manage the financial situation of our center with less financial overhead. However, your help is needed.

We need approximately $1500.00 for closing costs. Total closing costs are around $4,000. We have been able to raise $2,500 due to the generous help of some of our members. But we still need the difference as soon as possible. The bank us ready to close on these loans.

Please search your heart, and if you feel you are able to help in this way, please contact Amy Lee at 770-329-2754 with your pledge. Donations are confidential, and you help is greatly appreciated. The future of our center depends on your generous donations and pledge Please email us at dorjelin…@bellsouth.net if you have any questions or inquiries..
