Samantabhadra chanting practice is open to all, including non-Buddhist. This is a practice that helps clear away any obstructions to your meditation practice.

Tibetan chants offered by Khenpo Choejor In conjunction with Shower of Jewels show from the Rubin Museum

Tibetan Lama Khenpo Choejor shall lead a special service to ask for universal peace, as well as to offer prayers for families who face hardship including healing our lives of economic problems.

Oglethorpe Museum curator Lloyd Nick has generously opened his doors for this special service which includes an entire room of thangkas, some 500 years old, that evoke the Wealth Deities and Protectors.

All of these thangkas have been blessed by many generations before us, and they still hold the vibrations of the many prayers from those that have come before us.

Khenpo Choejor, resident teacher at Dorje Ling Center in Atlanta, is known and loved for his kindness, gentleness and wisdom.

In Tibetan tradition, an offering is given not only to thank the Lama, but also to earn merit and success in one’s prayers. All of the offerings will go to Khenpo Choejor as well as to Lama Tukpo, who is supporting his nun-sister in Tibet who requires spinal surgery.

Please join us in this rare sacred environment that unites the vibrations of sacred chants with the unique powerful presence of the thangkas.

A Shower of Jewels: Wealth Deities from
the Rubin Museum of Art

presents the five most prominent figures within the vivid pantheon of Buddhist deities devoted to protecting and providing wealth.

Paintings of these deities are filled with imagery that reinforces and reflects their wealth-granting power, including cultural and religious symbols of affluence, auspiciousness and abundance.

In the Himalayan tradition of Tantric Buddhism, there is a class of deities dedicated to granting and guarding wealth. This divine category appears contradictory, coming from a belief system that is identified with nonattachment to material well-being.

Nonetheless, it is justified by the belief that wealth can provide freedom from the cares of human life that divert us from finding a path to liberation from suffering.

In the hands of one who seeks enlightenment, wealth may become an instrument of compassion and a means to achieve spiritual goals.

Free admission for members, OU community and children under 12

In this Fall series Khenpo will teach from a text written by Khenpo Lodro Drakpo (one of Khenpo’s teachers teachers). The text is essentially a commentary on Dolpopa’s “Ocean of Definitive Meaning”. The first teaching in this series will be on the two truths.

Our translator will be Dr. Douglas Duckworth. Douglas has a PhD in Buddhist studies from the University of Virginia. He is also a Jonang practitioner and is currently a visiting Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
